Antique 18th Century Italian Silk & Gilt Wall Panels
Antique 18th Century Italian Silk & Gilt Wall Panels
A rare pair of antique wall panels dating to the early 18th century, likely Florence, Italy, deaccessioned from the collection of the Brooklyn Museum. Each panel is crafted from rich red silk damask, layered with silk and gilt metal appliqué in a symmetrical acanthus leaf design. The leaves show remarkable dimensional painted shading, outlined in gilt metal wrapped cord, with a border of silk and gilt metal braid, and backed in dark red silk.
These are genuine museum-quality decorative arts textiles featuring hand-applied metalwork, painterly shading technique, and over 300 years of history.
